production coordinator

Studio Meala are looking for an experienced Production Coordinator to help complete a short form project through to final delivery. The short has already begun production, so the setup is already operative, but we’re looking for a diligent self motivated individual to support the team through the rest of the project.

Ideally we would like the candidate to start as soon as possible, but we can accommodate some flexibility. The contract will run to cover final delivery in December 2022.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Director and Creative team as well as the Producers & studio heads at Studio Meala.
  • Work directly with the Clients to keep them up to date, flagging concerns and successes in reasonable time. 
  • Stay on top of the day-to-day tracking schedule for production needs. 
  • Be responsible for the long-term and day-to-day management of all processes, procedures, outputs and deliverables while ensuring that the production’s outputs are aligned with the production schedule, as well as the creative vision of the production. 
  • Responsible for disseminating schedule information to production personnel and tracking specific production tasks and relaying information to the Producer.
  • Responsible for preparing materials for shipping, tracking, and distributing materials to the crew and clients.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with the Producers on the production status.
  • Oversee the onboarding of all crew for the project.
  • Manage the crew through production, making sure they take into consideration people’s work/life balance and flagging any crew concerns with the Producer and Studio Meala.
 
Essentials:
  • Must have studio experience in an animation production team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Google suite. 
  • Strong written, verbal and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Experience with some production tracking software and asset management software, preferably Shotgrid or Ftrack.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
  • Need to be passionate & enthusiastic about the project!
  • Must show attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, a good attitude and overall enthusiasm, and strong communication skills while remaining discretion at all times.

  • Studio Meala seeks a Clean Up Supervisor to help lead the Clean Up Team for a 10 minute anime-style short film, with a hand-drawn approach for an international streaming service.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • A 2D Clean Up Supervisor roles include: 
  • Reports to the Clean Up Director 
  • Ensure that the expected quality and delivery of Clean Up animation for the 10 min short meets the Clean Up Director & Animation Director’s & Director’s creative visions. 
  • Help lead the Clean Up team—guide, supervise and mentor the work of the team while supporting them as individual Artists 
  • Working closely with the Clean Up Director & Animation Director to ensure the creative and technical requirements of the film are met by the Clean Up team. 
  • Work closely with the Production team to keep the Clean Up department on track making sure to flag any concerns and help keep Clean Up on schedule and on budget. 
  • Liaising with the Production team to ensure style requirements are met to the end of the production. 

 

Essentials:

  • Several years experience as lead or senior Clean Up Artist within 2D hand drawn animation.
  • Good knowledge of TV Paint.
  • Be able to lead a team, provide critical feedback, mentor and supervise other Artists.
  • Be able to assess the capabilities of individual Artists to set expectations, assign workloads and provide support accordingly
  • Be able to contribute as part of the senior Creative team.
  • Have very strong communication and interpersonal skills – in order to clearly communicate style and quality requirements to the team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work as part of the Clean Up team
  • Communicate with Animation Director, Clean Up Supervisor & Production team 

  • Hit weekly expected output and flag any issues that might hinder this weekly output
  • Help the Supervisor lead the Clean Up team – guide and mentor the work of the team while supporting them as individual Artists by assisting the Supervisor with tasks where needed

Essentials:

Good knowledge of TV Paint

  • Having a keen eye and experience working with rough key animation to be tied down/on model
  • Be able to help the Clean Up Supervisor lead a team, provide critical feedback, mentor and aid other Artists.

Head of Development

Studio Meala is looking for a Head of Development

Offering a competitive salary and a people-first work culture, this is a fixed-term contract in a (hybrid/in situ/remote) work situation, with the opportunity to develop the role to suit the right candidate.

Studio Meala has multiple projects in development spanning different styles with a range of influences.  Many of our projects draw inspiration from 90s anime and blend them with other influences.  An alignment of interest here would be helpful.

We are looking for a writer with a good eye for comedy, drama and characters.  Our projects in development come from a range of influences, so having some taste in common here would be ideal.  For example, our anime-inspired comedy/action series has the following influences for character and writing style:

Comedy/Character Writing Influences: Futurama, Simpsons, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Home Movies, Steven Universe, Succession.

Anime Influences: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Space Patrol Luluco (Studio Trigger), FLCL, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop.

We also have an animated horror feature in development, with the following influences:

Horror Influences: Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Paprika), Us (Jordan Peele), The Lighthouse, Junji Ito, Ari Aster.

We also have a couple of projects in development aimed at younger audiences, these would also require a keen eye for comedy, funny scenarios, and fun characters.

Job Summary:

The Head of Development will work directly with the senior management team to develop new and current Studio Meala IP. 

The role within the studio is to work with the senior team, writers, and creatives within the Studio Meala community to bring the IP slate into production. 

The Head of Development will report directly to the Creative Director and Managing Director in a collaborative manner and will be responsible for developing stories and working directly with collaborators, making sure the content aligns with the mission and values of the studio.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with writers and creatives involved in Studio Meala properties to develop strong stories and scripts that push the boundaries of animation.
  •  putting together pitching content like bibles, treatments, character logs etc.
  • Communicate with other team members, team Lead Artist, Production Supervisor and Production Coordinator to meet project artistic and creative goals and maintain the quality and standards of the projects they are involved in.
  • Continuously support and guide creatives in your core team.
  • Contributing to the positive, supportive, and inclusive culture of the studio
  • Ensuring and promoting the flow of effective, kind, and constructive communication within the core team in matters relating to creative production.
  • Lead by example, with kindness and approachability.
  • Contributing to voluntary weekly update meetings to report on key objectives and milestones achieved.

Key Skills:

We are a rapidly growing animation studio based in Boyle, Co Roscommon, with a number of high-level clients and projects. We are a company that values fairness and sustainability at our core and are hoping to find someone that shares those same values.

As Head of Operations, you will be responsible for the day to day operations of the entire studio, making sure that artists and the studio pipeline are working efficiently and that there is clarity throughout the organisation
